This custom Arabic font was created exclusively for the government of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. It was a result of an interesting request to create a digital typeface based on the handwriting of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan (1840–1909). The design process started by getting access to original historical letters and materials handwritten by Sheikh Zayed, the first president of the UAE. These materials were carefully studied and were the basis of the font designed that tried to capture the authentic spirit of the handwritting and the tools of the time used to draft letters. The challenge was to unify the font into a consistent style given the fact that the written material provided differed in details and characteristic of the writing outcome.
The typeface is now often used by the government in campaigns or printed and digital materials quoting Sheikh Zayed or in exhibition design contexts celebrating the history and life of the previous ruler of the UAE.
